CHADDS FORD’S BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES

Biological resources are many and varied in Chadds Ford. As indicated by the information found in the above links, our Township’s ecosystem hosts a wide variety of birds, mammals, and plants. These ecosystems extend beyond Chadds Ford, as these animals and plants are invisible to governmental boundaries. They only know the boundaries of their habitats, which makes them important to protect. Habitat quality is a function of many different resources, some of which are displayed in the sample of Open Space Plan maps found in the links below. The protection and management of habitats is one of several important considerations in the Township’s ongoing open space protection planning.

OPEN SPACE PLAN MAPS: A SAMPLING

A wide variety of maps of Chadds Ford truly form the "backbone" of the Open Space Plan, which is currently under development. (Watch this space for related announcements - public meeting and others!) The Plan's maps identify important natural and cultural resources (e.g., woodlands, historic, riparian, water) that will be recommended for protection by the Plan. The current maps of these example resources are found by following the above links, while large-size paper copies of all the maps currently contemplated by the Plan can be viewed at the Township Building. Refer to the "Glossary" and "Why are these resources important" links for definitions and explanations of many of the resources shown on the maps.

Thank You for Your Support!

The Chadds Ford Township Open Space Committee would like to thank everyone who completed the recent survey. The input from Township residents is fundamental to the process of creating an Open Space Plan that will best serve the public’s interests, including the protection of the natural, historic, and cultural resources within the Township. Nearly 80 residents attended our special meeting on December 4th to learn more about these resources so important to our health and quality of life and to discuss the survey results. We were pleased to hear your comments and feedback at the meeting. A copy of the survey and its results are now posted on this website.

We hope to have another meeting soon to further discuss our progress in completing a Township Open Space Plan that will help protect the quality of life that we enjoy.

Chadds Ford Open Space Committee Mission Statement

The mission of the Chadds Ford Township Open Space Committee is to identify how open space contributes to the quality of life within the community; to seek out public input and communicate broadly within the community to assure participation by all interested parties; and to recommend the best methods for maintaining the character of the Township by providing a plan to preserve the natural, historic, and cultural resources within the Township.

We appreciate the support the residents have shown for our efforts. We will continue to work hard to maintain the character of the Township.

Sincerely,
The Chadds Ford Township Open Space Committee
